Want to know where we get our wood? A look into our sustainable Irish forest

With the world’s rainforests subject to the ever increasing threat of permanent destruction, it is crucial for contemporary consumers to make responsible choices when it comes to buying wooden products such as furniture and building materials.

As an eco-friendly company, Empatika is dedicated to using environmentally sustainable materials and sources all its wood from Coillte, an innovative commercial enterprise with a company philosophy to “enrich lives locally, nationally and globally through the innovative and sustainable management of natural resources.”

With all of its forests certified to the Forest #tewardship Council (F#C) scheme, Coillte’s sustainable forestry values fall perfectly in line with Empatika’s dedication to making environmentally responsible choices. The company govern themselves according to a range of responsible forest management guidelines, including:

  • “developing forests in a way that is both environmentally sensitive, socially beneficial and economically sustainable.”
  • “abiding by the Forest Service Code of Best Practice and related guidelines on archaeology, fisheries, heritage, landscape and biodiversity among others.”
  • “striving for continuous improvement of forestry practices.”

With over 15% of Coillte’s total estate managed with the primary objective of maximising biodiversity, a vast collection of habitat restoration projects continually in place – and involvement in Ireland’s very first wilderness project, Wild Nephin Project, Co Mayo – this innovative, eco-friendly company is the perfect supplier for Tristan Titeux’s environmentally conscious carpentry business.

Another of Empatika’s eco-friendly partners is Medite, Europe’s most recognised brand of medium density fibreboard (MDF). Based in Clonmel, Ireland, the company lead the way in timer technology and is proud to exclusively manufacture products that are CARB2 compliant.

This means that the MDF contains minimal traces of the harmful compound of formaldehyde which was previously found in most composite boards.  The company is also an industry leader in eco-friendly manufacturing and has recently launched ‘Medite Ecologique’, a specialist zero formaldehyde product that is both healthy and eco-friendly.

By forming partnerships with likeminded companies and businesses such as Coillte and Medite, Empatika is able to maintain its environmentally friendly standards across all aspects of the furniture manufacturing process. This ensures that when clients commission bespoke furniture from Empatika, they are not only receiving premium quality craftsmanship but are also helping to conserve the world’s forests and ensure the health and prosperity of future generations.
